Hotel is commercial establishment providing lodging, meals and other guest services. There are various types of hotels which are classified as follows: On the basis of Location: Hotels are classified according to the location where they are built. Rates and duration of stay varies according to the location of the hotel. Hotel rates are classified according to the location. Hotels that fall in this category are: City center, suburban, motels, floating, boatels, rotels (hotel on rails), resorts and airport hotels. On the basis of Level of service: Hotels falling in this category are classified according to the level of services i.e. basic service to luxurious services, provided to the guests. Rates also vary according to the level of services provided to guests. Hotels according to level of services are classified as: Economy/ Budget hotels, Mid-market hotels and Luxury hotels. On the basis of Duration of stay: Hotels in this category are segregated according to the length of stay guests can have there. Duration of stay in hotels ranges from few hours to whatever the visitors might need. Rates can be charged according to number of days or according to hotel policy. Types of hotels in this category are: Transit, Transient, Residential, Semi-residential hotels. On the basis of Ownership: Classification of such hotels is made according to the type of ownership they have. Some are owned for a particular time period and some take franchise of the hotel or joint together as referral groups. Type of ownership are: Time share, Chain and Independent hotels, Management contract, and Franchise and Referral groups. On the basis of Size: Size of hotels is described according to number of rooms and area covered by the hotel for providing facilities to its guests. Prices varies according to place, services and the size of room available. Types of hotels falling in this are: Small, Medium sized, Large and Mega hotels. Based on Theme: Theme hotels are built according to a particular theme. One can see the touch of theme in their services and products or food available there. Types of hotels are: Heritage hotels, Ecotels, Boutique hotels, Spas, etc. On the basis of Target market: Hotels which are made for the purpose of targeting a particular group of people or sector falls in this categories. Hotels falling in this are built to cater various need of the owners and guests. Type of this category are: Convention, Resort, Suite, Commercial hotels and Casinos. On the basis of Ratings: Hotel ratings are based on the star it have. This star rating is given to the hotel as per the service they provide, ambience, area, customer feedback, etc. Star rating of hotels are classified as: One star, Two star, Three star, Four star, Five star, Five star deluxe and Five star super deluxe hotels.
